🏋️‍♂️ Boosting Grip Strength:

Wondering how to assess your grip strength? I used a handheld dynamometer from Amazon. My result for the right hand: 37.9 kg (Normal).

Even though I’m in the normal range and I’m pretty active at home, I’ll admit that up until recently, I’ve been more focused more on HIIT workouts a few times a week than strength training.

But after listening to a podcast by Dr. Gabrielle Lyon and following the work of Andrew Huberman, Peter Attia, and other prominent leaders in the health space, I’m excited to retest after going all-in on a grip strength-training regime as well as increasing my protein intake.

💡 Grip Strength as a Vital Sign:

Beyond traditional vital signs, like temperature and blood pressure, grip strength offers a unique insight into health and longevity. It reflects total-body strength, a key factor in aging gracefully. Weak grip often accompanies health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. The good news? Any strength training boosts grip strength, from Tai Chi to resistance training.

💪 Why a Strong Grip Matters:

A robust grip isn’t just about hand strength; it safeguards against falls and preserves mobility, especially as we age. Weak grip relates to issues like osteoporosis and high blood sugar. It also mirrors overall health and metabolic fitness.

🌡️ Grip Strength and Health:

Low grip strength signals metabolic problems like high blood sugar and cardiovascular risks. It’s a red flag for type 2 diabetes and overall mortality. Strengthening your grip means improving your metabolic health.

🌟 Final Thoughts:

Grip strength, a simple yet powerful metric, reveals a lot about our health and longevity. While I’m satisfied, I’m committed to enhancing my grip strength through strength training and a protein-rich diet. My goal? To achieve “strong” status soon. Stay tuned for updates!
